Loch Loerie
Our Story
Most of us have dreamt of living on a piece of land with forest and a river running through it. In 2018, this opportunity was made available to us and a lot of hard and ongoing work is creating this farm with all its different spaces and microcosms.
Loch Loerie is shared by 5 partners and mostly a family farm. We understand the privilege and responsibility we have being the guardians of this land, and are happy to share our work and vision with you.
Entering the farm you are welcomed by tree ferns nestling over streams, fern palaces under indigenous trees and the Touw river flowing softly (or strongly after much rain) through the valley.
Further up the mountain we are building permaculture systems and turning an old Eucalyptus plantation (trees which are invasive in South Africa) into food forests, gardens and living spaces.
Beyond the farms boundaries the mountains stretch into a fynbos wildereness.
Mountains to explore, a river to rest.
"A magical place!"
"The Jungle Book Farm."
"Pristine forest, river frontage and a direct entry into endless mountains. Breathtaking."
Loch Loerie is the perfect place for nature lovers. We have sighted many buck, porcupine, baboons and monkeys, a honey badger, mongoose, jennets and many more beautiful wild creatures on our farm.
You are likely to see Knysna Loeries play in the trees and much more…
